I Love My Shepherd! by Gene McGuire June, 2011

Standard
“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1)

COMMENT: Throughout the New Testament we Christians are referred to as sheep and I think there is validity to that designation because sheep are rather dumb animals and they need a lot of direction. I don’t know about you, but I often do some very dumb things. Sometimes a shepherd has to take drastic steps when he finds a wayward lamb – one that won’t stay close to the flock – thus running the risk of getting lost or being killed by a predator. He will often break one of the lamb’s legs and carry him on his shoulders until the leg heals. While the healing proceeds, the lamb’s affection for the shepherd grows and grows. When he is able to walk again, he never strays too far away from his beloved shepherd. Hard times can come because we disobey God or hard time come because that’s what they do . . .come! We should examine ourselves to determine which it is. I believe that Hebrews 12:6 verifies the premise we’ve put forth today: “For the Lord corrects and disciplines everyone He loves, and He punishes, even scourges, every son whom He accepts and welcomes to His heart and cherishes.”
SCRIPTURE STUDY: Proverbs 15:10, Isaiah 13:11 and Jeremiah 21:14a
WISE SAYING: ALL ADVERSITY MUST BE SIFTED THROUGH THE PERMISSIVE WILL OF GOD.
Just a thought, not a sermon.
